NEW ZEALAND WINE INDUSTRY LAUDS EXPORTS
Date: Thu 06 Nov 2008
Chief executive of New Zealand Winegrowers, Philip Gregan has told the New Zealand Herald that his organisation believes the industry is on track to meet its NZ$1 billion export target by 2010. Satitistics New Zealand data shows September was a record month for wine shipments from New Zealand: 10.8 million litres, worth more than NZ$100 million were exported in the month.
Sales for the year end June 2008 were up 14% in volume, but the increased in size of the 2008 vintage, up by 39%, demands a much greater increase in sales than the current rate. Already there are signs that British supermarket buyers are putting on pressure for New Zealand winemakers to drop their pants over wine prices in that market.
