BARREL PRICES FACE HIKE
Date: Tue 04 Nov 2008
The weakening New Zealand dollar is expected to drive up the price of French oak barrels to the highest level in New Zealand winemaking history. Already a number of tonneliers have raised New Zealand prices by 20%, a price that is expected to increase even further by the end of the 2009 vintage.
Prices are expected to rise by more than NZ$220 per 225 litre barrique.
