About Stone Bridge Wines
Sole Vineyard Varietal Wines
Stone Bridge wines are produced solely from grapes grown in our vineyard at Newstead Lane, Gisborne.
Gisborne is situated on the east coast of the North Island. As a result of our easterly location Gisborne is recognised as the ‘first city to see the sun", our climate provides ideal grape growing conditions.
Gisborne also has the reputation of being the Chardonnay Capital of New Zealand.
Our 12ha family owned vineyard is situated on the north facing slopes of the Taruheru River. Gisborne’s terroir is conducive to growing top quality grapes. The vineyard is managed by owner/viticulturist, David Hart. Plantings include Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Pinot Gris and Viognier. Our dedication to quality is further achieved through low cropping to maximise flavour. The focus of our wine maker is to produce wine that enhances the regions natural flavours.
The heart shaped celtic crest is a reflection of our family name and also our Irish ancestry; David ‘s wife Mairéad (nee Dillon) is a native of Limerick City. The name Stone Bridge was chosen as there is an old unused stone railway bridge over the river on the vineyard.
We hope you enjoy our wines.
David and Mairéad Hart
