Description
Sauvignon Blanc 2005:
A complex and intensely aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is perfumed with aromas of passion fruit and gooseberries. In the mouth the wine is full bodied with real concentration of flavour and aroma, a passion fruit character is dominant but this is backed by subtle dry grass like flavours with creamy almost nutty complexity and a crisp ripe attractive acidity.
This is a wine for drinking whilst young but has the substance and concentration to develop well over two to five years once the primary fruit aromas have subsided.
Chardonnay 2004:
This wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels the majority of which were older and about 20% were new. This has produced a complex subtle wine that has intense peach, ripe nectarine like characters overlaying a creamy, hazelnut and slightly spicy character, rather than overt fruitiness. The wine is full bodied and elegant, with a dry and crisp finish.
Pinot Noir 2004:
This wine was aged in 25% new French oak barrels and 75% older French oak barrels. This has produced a subtle, well structured wine with ripe fruit tannins. This pinot noir has aromas of ripe black cherries and violets with a lovely earthy complexity. A full bodied elegant wine with great complexity and a lingering finish.
This wine will repay cellaring for three to five years.
About Staete Landt Vineyard
Marlborough Wines of Integrity and Perseverance

The Journey is the Reward
Staete Landt Vineyard is a boutique family owned wine company on the renowned riverbed soils of Rapaura in the heart of Marlborough.
We produce single vineyard Estate Grown wines from our 52 acre vineyard block. With a small team of dedicated and passionate wine professionals we focus on producing honest wines that represent the unique characters of our terroir. We believe the best wines are wines that show character, great structure and balance. That’s what we aim for in our vineyard and in our winemaking, every day.
The Name
Staete Landt is the first European name given to New Zealand by Abel Tasman when he discovered the land on 13 december 1642. It means: “Land discovered in honour of the Governors (States) of the Dutch Republic”. On his voyages in the pacific Tasman also discovered Tasmania (Van Diemen Land), Fiji and Tonga. Three years later, in 1645, the Governors changed Staete Landt to its present name “New Zealand” (Nova Zeelandia).
The Wines
Staete Landt wines truly represent each vintage and the uniqueness of our terroir in Marlborough’s top growing region Rapaura. The wines come from many different blocks in the vineyard and are fermented separately until they get blended back together before bottling. This means that our wines already show complexity when they are young and gain more complexity over time. Staete Landt wines are bone dry and age elegantly and are lovely to drink by themselves but show their true potential when drank with food.
The Staete Landt sauvignon blancs are complex and well structured are famous for their aging potential. Although it’s unusual to drink “older” sauvignon blancs you may be interested in tasting some older sauvignon blancs from our “vertical sauvignon blanc” offer.
The Pinot Noir comes from the clay-blocks on the vineyard, elegant and well structured with great length. The Chardonnay comes from 3 different vineyard blocks, various clones and is one of our best kept secrets, a complex style Chardonnay with balance and length.
The Vineyard
The Staete Landt Vineyard is designed to produce Single Vineyard Estate Grown Wines with complexity through thorough use of clone, rootstock and soil variation. Our focus in the vineyard is to grow healthy and well balanced vines that will deliver consistently ripe fruit with distinct Rapaura flavours. Through shoot thinning, bunch thinning and manual leaf plucks we concentrate on low yields in order to grow intensely flavoured grape berries.
